Fortnite popularity peaks on PornHub

Fortnite popularity peaks on PornHub

People tend to have quite… specific taste in porn. Especially gamers. And what’s one of the current crazes among game-lovers? Fortnite! Thanks to PornHub’s statisticians we now know how popular the game is on their website.

There’s nothing wrong in getting off to your favourite game characters. We’re not judging.

For those of you who somehow don’t know yet, Fortnite is a is a co-op sandbox survival game developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, with the former publishing it. The game was released as a paid-for early access title for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 25, 2017. Two months later we got Battle Royale mode, in which up to 100 players airdrop from floating buses onto a randomly generated map, which includes random distribution of weapons, armor, and other combat support features. The goal is to be the last player (or team, if playing in small squads) alive by killing or avoiding other players. Over time, the game’s safe zone (representing the eye of a Storm that is ravishing the world), decreases in size, and players caught outside the zone will take damage, potentially dying.

But enough of the introductions, let’s get to the fun part.

The graph below shows popularity of Fortnite searches over time. It wasn’t an immediate hit on Pornhub, as you can see. New additions and patches (like the 1.36 patch in January and when 60 FPS was enabled in February) had positive impact on the amount of searches, but it was only recently when it really took off, with the absolute peak around 15th of March. Why is that, you ask?

Does ‘Ninja’ and ‘Drake’ ring a bell? Not really?

Well, one of the most (if not the most) popular Fortnite streamers on Twitch, Ninja, broke Twitch’s record in concurrent viewers, attracting 628K people. But it wasn’t only his effort. Somehow Ninja managed to play alongside Drake. They spent hours killing people on the island.

As you all can see, this tweet got hell of a lot likes and retweets and that’s how the game gathered interest. Nothing boosts popularity like a celebrity. Even if this popularity shows on strange places like porn sites.

What are some popular Fortnite search phrases? Besides the title, of course.

It’s kind of interesting how “hentai” (Japanese term for porn, also a genre of anime and manga – animation and comics) is the most popular word connected to “fortnite” in searches. Other than that we have some classics like porn, sex, ass or try not to nut. Is it really that hard of a challenge?

It’s quite obvious, but let’s state it: it’s gamers who seek Fortnite porn. The graph below shows terms searched before or after this title, during the same session. Overwatch wins all, there’s no doubt about it. Fortnite fans seem to like cartoon-ish style, since the list consists of titles like Team Fortres 2, Pokemon, Paladins and terms like “cartoon”, “hentai” and “anime”. I bet you can imagine the type of person based on these searches. There are also some odd picks. Like Minecraft on the 4th place. Well, whatever floats your boat I guess…

The data shows that Fortnite is mainly seek by men aged 18-24, mostly owning an iPhone. Visitors on Apple iOS based devices are 77% more likely to search the game compared to Android users. What country has the most Fortnite lovers?

Surprisingly, the old continent beats USA. The title is particularly popular in northern countries, with Finland, Norway and Denmark in top 5.

It’s really fascinating how games gain popularity outside of gaming itself. You know what they say – there is no such thing as bad publicity. Fortnite is on a roll now. Let’s just all enjoy whatever we like and not judge. Everyone has some dirty pleasure and that’s totally fine. Be it Fortnite, Fifa or Minecraft.
